Saying Amin behind the Imam

0

Concerning saying ” Ameen” behind the imam in prayers of Fajr, Maghrib, and Isha’: I know that we don’t say it in loud voice like the Shafi’is , but sometimes I wonder if we are to say it or remain silent because the prayer of the imam is sufficient for us. Please explain our postion on the subject.

There are numerous hadith that mention the value of saying "amin" after the Imam finishes his recitation of the Fatiha in the prayer so there can be no doubt concerning the merit of doing so. The question here is one of how we say it. The "amin" is one of the sunna dhikrs of the prayer. So when we say the "amin" we say it the same way we say all the other sunna dhikrs of the prayer such as the "bismillah" before the recitation, "subhana rabi al 'adhim" in ruku or "subhana rabi al 'ala" in sujud. We say them all in quiet voice. That is the Hanafi position.
