▶ What are the goals of this website?
My goals are:
- to call to and teach Islam in general
- to keep students in contact & engaged
- to provide information that keeps Muslims informed and aware in a religiously beneficial manner
▶ What is the difference between public and member content?
Public content is available to all visitors whether they have registered or not while member content is only available to registered members. Public content is content from this website or others that is of general benefit.
Member content is directed at those who have chosen to register with this website. It is all original material presented and arranged with a view to reinforcing the fundamental understanding of the Religion that I have inherited from my teachers and that I attempt to pass on in my classes. Member content is also generated by members in the sense that suggestions and questions from members serve as the major impetus for content production.
▶ I am looking for some content that was on the old website.
This website is more focused than its predecessor, Qays.org. This is less styled as a blog but features articles and audio/visual media content. Some (perhaps most) posts from the old website are therefore not appropriate for this one and were not republished. If there is something that was of particular interest to you please message me using the contact form below or via Facebook or Twitter.
▶ Why do you want visitors to register?
I ask visitors to register because this website is like my home on the web and I would like to know who visits so that I can be the best host possible. Specifically:
- this website is intended to be a place where those who have studied with me can continue to benefit in a more informal way and for that to really happen I need to know who's visiting
- knowing some facts (like general geographical location for example) helps me in deciding on appropriate content and even informs the way I answer general questions
- it would be good to have a sense of community around knowledge of the religion here so encouraging registration helps with that
- much of the bad character and irresponsibility on the Internet goes back to the (false) sense of anonymity people feel when using it, registration thus also helps visitors to be responsible with each other and the site
- knowing how many of my visitors are students and where people are registering from helps me to better manage advertisements which are there to help sustain the website
